Is this THE BEST TOYOTA CROWN? - 2013 Crown Hybrid Athlete G | WHAT ARE WE DRIVING
Is this the best Toyota Crown? For me and 90% of Toyota Crown owners, the answer is pretty simple. I do a bit of a review and some POV driving to share some details about this amazing fuel-efficient car.
Noting that some mild-hybrids were also released as part of the 170 series Crown in the early 2000s, however the information provided in this video references full-hybrid variants only.

      Cheers! Mixed bag between the two. It really depends on the type of driving you do. In most instances you might get better fuel economy from the Majesta in mixed driving.

    I honestly couldn't go back from the 3.5L Hybrid. I own a GWS204, and it's the most effortless thing I've ever driven. So much power, so much torque from the EV assistance, and I'm averaging 6.5L/100km. It makes me smile every time I get to an onramp.

      Great to hear you're enjoying it! It's actually rare to hear the GWS204 getting such good economy. Have you recently replaced the hybrid battery as this could explain it too? We generally see them between 8 to 12L/100km in mixed driving. I think each of these cars have a place and that's really up to the buyer. The modern look, feel and economy of the AWS210 series Crown is what convinced me that it honestly suits 90% of buyers (in Australia anyway). The Japanese markets vast uptake is something that speaks volumes as well. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

    I really liked the video! We went to Japan last year and I kinda fell in love with the newer ARS220 Crown. Have you been thinking of maybe upgrading to that model?

      Glad you liked it! I will own a 220 series at some point, maybe a G Executive GWS224, but not just yet. I've been itching for some adventure/camping so maybe a 4wd for a little while before I return to the JDM cars.

    Hey man great video I have been looking at one of these for my partner she likes the look of them but I have some concerns with where I would stand if there was ever a issue with the hybrid battery as I’m looking at around a 2013 model. Do you have any thoughts on the above?

      Hey cheers! The battery technology is the same as a Prius or Camry hybrid from the same era and are actually readily available anywhere those vehicles were sold. In Australia a full replacement battery pack costs roughly AUD $4000 installed from one of many suppliers around the country. This AWS210 series appears to not suffer from many hybrid battery pack issues like the previous generation (GWS204) - I imagine the Hybrid controller perhaps has a better design. There is an option to replace individual 'cells' as well within the battery pack, and usually only cost about AUD$80 per cell, however if one cell is dead usually the others will follow. It's a great platform and I think its about time more people get behind Toyota Hybrids. These are a great entry point.

    does the throttle lag goes away if your not in eco mode?

      No it doesn't actually. It only goes away if you're in Snow mode, because it will sit on 2nd gear instead of trying to shift back into 1st.. but Snow mode drastically cuts power so that's not a solution.

      No worries, I can't say for certain if a throttle controller will resolve it, as it's more of a lag due to the gearbox shifting back to 1st gear.

      The 2GR-FSE engine in these are pretty bullet proof. Used in a lot of other Lexus cars such as the IS350 and GS350. With proper maintenance I see them easily reaching over 350k kms.

      Nah if you mean so that you can have a range of pressure, you can't. Its just an on/off switch.

      @@jmac7288 hi yes, I'm sorry I usually reply unlike most if I found a fix I'd post how it was done hate it when you see a problem and there's never a answer, I know it can be very helpful for those searching, But yes I got the wheel back in perfect I was in a panic it wouldn't allign true dead centre when I sat down and thought about it was dead simple to reassemble it, I wanted the wheel to be true dead centre again if it was out even a tooth it would eat my OCD or CDO the order it should be haha But all done and dusted if you need help I'm happy to walk you through recentering the wheel.     Greetings from Finland! Considering a JDM car. Its actually bit of a thing in Finland now.. Biggest turn off for me is lefthanded traffic which makes overtaking with a car that has steering on the right side a bit tricky. Thank you for the detailed video!

      Yes and no, it depends on your purpose for the vehicle and where you live. I've put a new video up where for the majority of owners, the 2.5cyl Hybrid meets 90% of their needs. Have a look if you get a chance.

      Theres no strict definition, it seems any car can become a G package if it has one of the G features selected like parking sensors, rear climate control, radar cruise etc. You can have a very heavily optioned G package or a very light optioned G package.

      If you are in Australia, look for 'Whereis Maps 22' it will contain the correct firmware for Australian maps. I don't have details on any overseas map options.

    I used a real handbrake from an R33 skyline and it was so easy to mount to my rig and wire the switch to an RCA cable it took me 2 hours tops and that's painted mounted and working!

    Great info throughout your video's Krish, i found that drilling pilot holes from engine side of firewall, then drilling the 8mm and 30mm holes from inside the car under the dash, more room for the drill. 👍👍👍

      Unfortunately I don't really keep track of rep wheels, but you will be wanting high disc faces to clear the brakes. I've had 20" work vs-xx in my 200 crown and 20" weds 709m on my current 210 crown. Without lowering it will look a bit odd with 20s. 18s are too small for the body. 19s might look ok. Have a look at Work M8r for a reputable wheel that's not too dear.

      I wanted to buy silver vs xx set If I install coilovers - which would you recommend 19x8.5, 19x9 or 19x9.5? And what offset should I stick to? Ie with thickness is less likely to rub the fenders? I don’t want to roll the fenders or alter any of the panels

      I'm sorry I wouldn't be able to give you accurate information on any of those questions. A lot of it is always trial and error with any cars that I have put wheels onto. There are too many variables and honestly because you are trying to do this without coilovers and without any rolling of guards - the wheels you choose will not really come off having a good look with a vsxx type wheel. The spoke design doesn't allow for much clearance to the brakes to begin with because it's so flat. That means there would be no or minimal amount of lip because of your requirements. I have seen your numerous posts across the Facebook groups and I would wait till you have the car first and do some trial and error at a wheel shop or with friends wheels to give you an idea of sizes you can go and what will look ok. All the best.

There’s no way to get good fitment without coilovers for the vs xx or most aftermarket rims - i understand that I think I’ll wait until I get the car - and try and find other peoples 19inch vs xx setups on coilovers in the meantime so I have a setup in mind then bite the bullet Appreciate the feedback

      Hey, unfortunately series 1 is a no-go for Australian maps. Series 2 navigation unit is the only one that can take the Australian maps and just highlighting that only the navigation becomes english, not the rest of the screens on the EMV as that is stored in the screen software itself and cannot be changed.

    but if you solder to a button like R3 this has only two states and you can't action 10, 20, 30 or 90% of the handbrake no?, can't you solder to another analog button like the wheel for example?

      That's correct. You would need a resistive switch or rotary dial to connect to your handbrake mechanism. For my purpose and many others I was wanting the on/off action that's usually used with a hydro handbrake in drifting. Rally is a different story where you may want a percentage of activation.

    Very slick video tutorial mate 👍. I just cant seem to get the wheel back on flush. The right paddle not hitting the switch. I’ve shaved abit off the plastic where the wire presses against but still no good. More shaving i guess.

      Cheers, yeah sometimes the wire will pinch on some of the plastic. Maybe try a small piece of paper in the suspected area, it should get an imprint of where it's contacting.

      @@KrishneilGarib Managed to put it back together after shaving the glue and plastic. So after some mad drifting sessions the wheel started to randomly bring up the menu when more then 1 full tun occured. Opened it up and noticed one of the solder points eventually loosened up the original solder point. This caused all sorts of random stuff from the wheel. So, back to the drawing board. I might try again on the spare G29 and pay extra attention to the glue spots
